About EMID Families

Welcome to the EMID Families website. We are families of students of Harambee and Crosswinds schools. These schools are part of the East Metro Integration District (EMID), which is made up of Saint Paul and nine surrounding suburban districts (Inver Grove Heights Community Schools, Mahtomedi, North Saint Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale, Roseville, South Saint Paul, South Washington County, Stillwater, West Saint Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan, and White Bear Lake). We are proud of our schools and believe in working together to make them as great as they can be.

Who are we?

Over sixty people signed our attendance sheet at our first meeting. Over fifty people have signed up for our mailing list. We are families who care about the mission of EMID and the future of the Harambee and Crosswinds schools. Please join us!

What are we doing?

Here are some recent changes on this website:

The best way to stay informed about what we are doing is to join the EMID Families email list. Here are the current four areas on which we are focussed.

EMID/622 Issues

Right now we are working hard to track developments in the withdrawal of District 622 (North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale) from EMID and work with EMID on options for 622 families.

Marketing EMID

We think it is critical to market EMID to its member districts and to other potential member districts. EMID offers many services that deserve more attention in all our home districts, and many parents don't even realize EMID is an option for their kids.

Legislative Issues

EMID was founded through integration mandates developed in the Minnesota state legislature. The Legislative committee wants to help EMID Families understand the desegregation rules and demographics which lie at the foundation of EMID, and to work with the Minnesota legislature and other interested parties to make sure those rules serve families well into the future.

Coordination

We are just one of many active and interested groups that are part of EMID. We want to make sure that EMID Families works effectively with everyone in the EMID community, including site councils, parent involvement groups, and EMID administration. We are also interested in keeping the EMID Families group itself active and energized.
