Stacey Grenz let us post this set of questions she asked of the 622 board in a note on 20 January 2008.
Let’s say that you 622 approve the decision to withdraw from EMID.
What would you do with the additional $600,000?
Would you create an environment where:
- Students from urban and suburban areas learn together?
- Every classroom has a diverse student body?
- There is a certified International Baccalaureate Program?
- Discussions about race, class, and culture are routine, deep, meaningful, thought-provoking, and use high level thought?
- Students learn from innovative and diverse curriculum?
- Individual as well as group work has a strong emphasis?
- After school offerings are diverse and highly attended?
- Students retain more information as a result of a year-round schedule?
- Fun and enriching classes during school breaks?
- Teachers have attended many hours of diversity training and still want more?
- Teachers partner with teachers from other districts?
- Innovative staff development opportunities are created where culturally competent teaching skills are enhanced?
- National leaders speak about culturally competent teaching and learning?
- Principals are trained in culturally-proficient leadership?
- Interview questions are asked to judge a prospective employee’s cultural competence?
- Practices are formulated and utilized to increase staff diversity?
- Administrators visit from around the world?
School Board Members, if this is what you want,
this is what you already have as a member of the East Metro Integration District!
Please do not walk away from a partnership in which your district staff and students are benefiting!
Work with EMID to make it work for you!
