Slow Down

David Skoglund sent this letter to the school board members of other EMID districts and other stakeholders during the week of 15 January 2008.

You are receiving this email because you are a stake-holder in the East Metro Integration District (EMID). Most of you are school board members of a district which is part of the EMID, or you represent one one of those areas in the Minnesota Legislature.

I am writing to you today on ISD 622s intention to withdraw from the EMID. I am a parent who lives within ISD 622, and my child attends Harambee Elementary School which is within EMID.

Within the last couple of days the news that ISD 622 wishes to withdraw from EMID has emerged. The EMID parent community was blindsided by this news. 622 has moved very quickly towards this decision, too quickly in the minds of the EMID community. There has been little to no involvement from the families impacted by this movement. 622's committee on this matter invited two parents who were not to be impacted by this issue to comment and when neither of them could attend their meetings, no alternative voices were sought out.

I have read through their information packet for their study and I cannot find any significant documentation on how their proposed actions would impact you, the other stake holders of the EMID.

I urge you to contact your colleagues on the 622 school board and ask that they slow down this process and involve everyone within EMID; the other stake-holders and especially the families. In the opinions of the EMID parent and student community, ISD 622 has a tiny amount of time recklessly rushing toward a decision which will derail a successful, innovative, and historic integration program with over 10 years of history. By pulling out of EMID, ISD 622 will rip apart a thriving educational community whose members are families from each of your districts.

The 622 Board is set to vote on this issue on Tuesday, January 22nd so time is critical. Please contact your colleagues in 622 with your concerns ASAP.

Thank you for your time.
